Apple pie with flan for less than 3 euros. I have also joined the YouTube challenge of making a cake for less than 3 euros. Well, it was actually Adela from “El Dulce Paladar” who challenged me to do it.
And since he told me, I have been thinking about what to make it and I thought that with what I like flan, fruit and puff pastry I could make an easy, delicious and above all very cheap dessert. Let’s see, who doesn’t like a good apple pie with these ingredients that combine perfectly ???
The best of all is that if you don’t know how to cook or you are not good at it, there is no problem, because the preparation of this cake is the simplest in the world, you also have a demonstration video where you can see how I make it.
So, come with me to my virtual kitchen. When you see the final result, you won’t mind turning on the oven one bit.
Ingredients for apple pie
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (€ 1.12)
- 1 envelope of flan (0.17 €)
- 500 ml of milk (€ 0.29)
- 2 apples (0.93 €)
- 1 egg (€ 0.16)
- 70 gr of sugar (€ 0.05)
- 40 gr of apricot jam (€ 0.06)
TOTAL = € 2.78
Utensils I have needed:
- Cutting board
- Bowl for pouring ingredients
- Blender to stir everything well
- Obviously oven to cook everything.

Steps of this recipe:
The first thing you have to do is separate a little milk in a bowl. The rest you put in a saucepan over the fire, add 5 tablespoons of sugar and stir until the sugar has completely dissolved.
Now you dissolve the contents of the flan envelope in the milk that you had set aside. When it has been completely diluted, you pour it into the saucepan that you have on the fire. You stir until the milk rises and you reserve it in a bowl.
While the flan is cooling you have to prepare the puff pastry. You spread the sheet without removing the paper that surrounds it , cut some strips all around to make a border (you can see it in the photos or in the video) and prick the dough with a fork so that it does not rise.
The next thing is to brush the edges with water to glue the strips. You are placing 2 layers (one on top of the other) around the edge of the puff pastry.
Then you spread the flan over the entire surface of the sheet and cover it with a layer of apples in a harmonious way so that it is beautiful.
Then you paint the edges with beaten egg so that they brown and with a strainer sprinkle sugar on top.
With the oven preheated to 200ºC, you bake it for about 15 minutes until it is done and golden brown.
Finally, as soon as the cake is cooked, you take it out of the oven, heat the jam a little in the microwave to soften it , stir it with a fork and spread it with a brush on the hot cake so that it sets well.
How to make the apple pie
- I advise you to use green apples better than red ones because they are easier to bake.
- You can decorate it with syrup or neutral jelly instead of the jam.
- I recommend that you cut the apples last so they don’t turn black.
- This cake can replace industrial pastries so that your breakfasts and snacks are healthier and more nutritious.
