This recipe for Torrijas stuffed with white chocolate is very typical of Easter but with a very modern touch. For me it is one of the best desserts that we have in our gastronomy. A sweet so simple and so rich that it consists of taking advantage of the previous day’s bread by mixing it with milk and battered with egg.
But why hadn’t it occurred to you to fill them in? Well, I have made a variant that has driven everyone in my family crazy, stuffed torrijas decorated with sour cherries in syrup. When I told it in my house, they told me to try it to see how they come out and, the truth, when they ate them their reaction was Oh my God, how are they!
If the traditional ones are already fantastic, imagine how they will be if you add white chocolate to the set. Don’t tell me your mouth isn’t watering.
If you want to surprise with something different this Easter holidays, I advise you to do them because they are just as simple as traditional torrijas .
Sliced bread without crust
1/2 liter of milk
1/2 liter of cream
100 gr. of sugar
1 tablet of white chocolate
The peel of an orange
Oil for frying
Sugar and cinnamon powder for coating
Sour cherries in syrup
French toast stuffed with white chocolate: step by step
1.- The first thing you have to do is mix the milk and cream in a saucepan. Afterwards, you wash the orange and remove the skin without much white to prevent it from becoming bitter.
2.- Now you put the saucepan on the fire and add the orange peel, the 100 gr. of sugar and a cinnamon stick. When it starts to boil you remove it. Let it infuse, the longer the better, so that the milk takes on the flavor of all the ingredients.
3.- Place the bread on a glass tray and put an ounce or two of chocolate, depending on the size, and close with the slice that corresponds to it. Strain the milk and soak the bread well and coat with the beaten egg.
Final preparation of the torrijas
4.- Put a frying pan on the fire with enough oil and as soon as it is hot, fry them well on both sides until they are golden brown.
5.- When they are fried, put them on a plate on absorbent paper to remove the excess oil and coat them in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Decorate them with cherries, I advise you to do it because this touch gives it a very special flavor.
