2 sheets of puff pastry
300 gr of sliced ham
200 gr of sliced cheese
Bechamel sauce to taste
Step by Step
Cut a little the edges of the puff pastry sheet that you are going to put on top, remove them and reserve them to decorate it. I have only cut two sides of the sheet and about a finger wide (you can see it in the video if you don’t know how to do it).
Spread the other plate on the baking tray, without removing the paper, prick the entire surface with a fork and paint the edges with beaten egg.
Now place the slices of ham, mounting a little one on top of the other and leaving the surrounding edge uncovered.
Put the cheese slices on top of the ham. Add the bechamel and spread it completely covering it. Repeat another layer of ham.
Cover with the cut puff pastry sheet and close tightly pressing the entire edge with your fingers.
Decorate it to your liking with the strips that you have reserved. Prick with a fork or a toothpick and paint the entire surface and edges with beaten egg.
With the oven preheated to 180ºC you bake it until it is golden brown.
My tips and tricks
Do not open the oven for the first 10 minutes so that the puff pastry rises correctly.
If you have parchment paper around the foil, trim it so it doesn’t burn.
Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
Do not tell me that it is not easy to make this ham and cheese empanada.
