The Montecristo sandwich has become one of the favorites in my house, not to say that it is the one they ask me the most, and I am delighted because in just 10 minutes I have it ready since it does not need an oven. And if I accompany you with some french fries or some onion rings, I have a dinner ready that doesn’t even leave crumbs.
This sandwich appears in American cuisine as a transformation of the famous croque monsieur, although I believe, rather, that it is a mix between the mixed sandwich and French toast. Be that as it may, how can something so simple be so good.
And if you have not tried it yet, you do not know what you are missing since it is delicious, you have it ready in a jiffy and it works like a charm for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients for 2 sandwiches
6 slices of sliced bread
2 slices of ham
2 slices of cold turkey
4 slices of cheese to melt
2 tablespoons of mayonnaise
1 tablespoon mustard
75 ml milk
Step by Step
1.- First you have to mix the mayonnaise and mustard until everything is well integrated.
2.- Then spread a thin layer on the slice that you are going to use as a base, on top you put a slice of ham and two of cheese. If the slices are very long, you can cut them and place them so that they do not protrude from the sides.
3.- We take another slice of bread and spread it on the side that you are going to close the sandwich and place it on top. Next, you spread it on the other side and repeat the same operation but now you place the cold turkey in place of the ham and cover with a slice of bread with the sauce part facing down.
4.- Now you put the eggs and milk in a container and beat.
5.- Next, you put a frying pan on the fire and melt the butter. As soon as it starts to bubble, you coat the sandwich making sure you soak it on all sides without overdoing it, as the bread could become too soft.
6.- You transfer it to the pan, brown it on all sides including the edges, until it is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
7.- Finally you take it out of the pan and place it on a plate with absorbent paper to remove the excess oil.
My tips and tricks
You can sprinkle icing sugar on top and jam or accompany it with hot maple syrup.
To get all its flavor you have to serve it warm.
You can also make them in the oven by adding some grated cheese on top.
I have used sliced cheese for sandwiches, but you can substitute it for the one you like the most, as long as it melts easily.
You can change the butter for sunflower oil.
