Orange chicken: step by step
1.- The first thing is to put the oranges in the microwave for 30 seconds to get more juice and get 2 glasses, which is what you need for the sauce. You take them out of the microwave and make the juice that you put in a bowl.
2.- Then add the soy sauce, a teaspoon of orange zest, 1 of sugar and 2 of cornstarch to thicken the sauce. You stir immediately so that no lumps form.
3.- The salt and pepper, you stir it again and reserve.
4.- Put a saucepan over medium heat with a drizzle of oil, add the finely chopped onion and lower the heat. You add a little salt to release the water and poach before.
5.- When you see that it has taken color, add the breasts cut into small cubes the size of a bite and seal the meat until it has lost its pink color.
Final preparation
6.- Once the meat is sealed so that it does not lose the juices, pour the sauce that you had reserved and cook for about 15 minutes over low heat, until the sauce has thickened.
7.- Stir from time to time so that it does not stick to the bottom.
8.- Finally, let it rest a bit and enjoy an outstanding chicken.
My tips and tricks
- If you want the flavor to be more intense, you can marinate the chicken in the orange mixture for an hour in the refrigerator.
- You can change the tablespoon of sugar for one of honey.
- You can also add a splash of Chinese vinegar to the mixture.
