This Potato and meat cake is a very useful dish because it is made with ingredients that everyone likes and the best of all is that if you have a meeting at home and there are many of you, you just have to make more and that’s it. Do not stay short because as soon as you smell it, it will disappear in the blink of an eye.
This is a recipe with meat I like with passion, well me and everyone at home. You can imagine a delicious meatloaf with a crunchy layer of mashed potatoes with gratin cheese and stuffed with minced meat and vegetables, don’t tell me that since your mouth is not watering, because my siiii !!!
It is very simple to cook since as soon as you have prepared the puree and the meat is practically done. It is typical of the Anglo-Saxon culture but it has spread throughout the world and I am not surprised because with just one dish you have a very complete lunch or dinner ready.
I recommend that you keep this recipe safe if you want to be successful in your meetings.
- 1 k potatoes
- 500 gr of minced beef
- 2 carrots
- 1 onion
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 100 gr of fried tomato
- Grated Parmesan cheese to taste
- 1/2 glass of white wine
- Extra virgin olive oil
Potato and meat pie: step by step
1.- The first thing is to make the mashed potatoes and for this you have to put a quick pot with water on the fire, you can also use a normal casserole although it will take longer, add the peeled potatoes with salt and cook them for 10 minutes until that are soft. As soon as it is finished, you put them in a drainer and let them cool.
2.- While you are making the filling, so you add the onion and the minced garlic in a frying pan with a drizzle of oil and we fry it. When it has taken color, add the grated carrots and the meat with salt and pepper to taste, mix and fry until the meat loses its pink color.
4.- Next, add the wine and cook for 5 minutes so that the alcohol reduces and evaporates. Pour the fried tomato on top and stir well. Lower the heat and cook 15 more minutes so that the sauce thickens and takes on flavor.
5.- Now it’s the turn of the puree. You mash the potatoes with the help of a fork until you get a smooth paste, if you want it to have more flavor and be smoother you can add a drizzle of oil or a little butter and mixes.
6.- We are going to assemble the cake and the first thing is to preheat the oven to 200º C with heat up and down. Now you have to spread a layer of fried tomato on the base of the baking tray you have chosen.
7.- We put half of the puree on top and spread it well. You add the meat filling by flattening it and squeezing it very well so that it is compact and does not spill. Then you make the last layer with the rest of the puree and sprinkle the grated cheese covering the entire cake.
8.- Finally, you introduce the tray into the oven and cook for 15 minutes. After the quarter of an hour, put the grill and gratin for 5 minutes until the cheese has melted and is golden brown. You take it out of the oven and let it sit to settle.
My tips and tricks
- If you prefer, you can change the grated cheese for mayonnaise .
- You can eat it hot or cold as it is just as good.
- Let it sit well so it doesn’t fall apart.
- You can put on top of the cheese pine nuts, pieces of bacon, ham …
- I have made minced beef but you can change it for mixed or pork.
