Christmas is coming, in my opinion one of the best times of the year. It is a moment of happiness, of being with the family, of remembering the good moments together and of making promises with the intention of making our life go better with our loved ones.
It is for all this that our house must be decorated as the occasion deserves. For this we get together all the members of the family, we take out the accessories and accessories typical of these dates and we decorate the rooms of our home. We start one by one, we usually do it in an orderly fashion and we don’t start one until we have finished another. The rooms of our children and ours of marriage, we do not forget the one of the grandparents. We decorate the entrance or hall, the kitchen and the terrace, we even decorate the bathroom with Christmas motifs and that makes this room, which is usually quite cold, a much warmer and more pleasant place.
Of all the places in a house, the one that we pay the most attention to and put the most emphasis on when decorating for Christmas is, without a doubt, the living room. And it is not surprising, because in most homes it is where the family lives. It is where we eat and dine, watch TV, relax on our comfortable sofas, play and chat at their tables and even discover the world by reading books in our favorite armchair. Many are the pieces of furniture that make up our living rooms, so we have a great job to get them dressed and adapted for when Christmas arrives.
Let’s get started …
Living room tables. It may be the piece of furniture and the most important and valued area of this room. At Christmas is where we carry out the most relevant celebrations, in them we have dinner on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and it is where we usually share with a glass of cava all the memories and anecdotes that we have lived during the year that we are going to leave behind. Decorate the table in your living room with your best clothes and with motifs that continually remind us that it is Christmas. When doing so, always keep in mind the advice I give: saturating is not decorating.
The sofa . Dress it up with cushions that represent Christmas such as trees, balls and streamers or the usual socks where Papa Noe usually leaves us his gifts. Elegant armrests with strong tones such as red, mauve or yellow will come in handy.
Lamps and paintings . Use them to hang Christmas streamers, balls and figures. Take advantage of the multitude of variety and colors that these ornaments always have to match the lamps and paintings.
On the windows and doors you can adhere a multitude of stickers and gel adhesives that are totally suitable for this since their glue does not leave a mark or stain and they are “removable”, so you can use them every year.
Bookcases and shelves . In them you can locate many of the small accessories that we have and that always give atmosphere to our room on these dates. Decorate them with bells, stars, brightly colored balls, little mysteries, the always-used and famous snowmen … Complements that individually do not stand out but that together help us to achieve a high decorative level .
Small tables . Both the small table that we have next to our sofas and the one that we can use for the lamp, we can take advantage of them to leave a Christmas motif such as a book that refers to this time, a napkin holder with Christmas motifs or a set of coffee or tea that we meet at these parties. It is good to leave a small Advent calendar on this type of tables for the little ones in the house to enjoy.
Chimney We cannot finish the post without referring to this area that we may have in our living room and that makes it a very warm place. Socks have always been hung in the fireplace and on its mantel we have placed photos of past Christmas with our loved ones. Remember that you never have to cover it to allow Santa Claus to go down it.
Now we just have to wait for Christmas to come. Take advantage of this time of joy and happiness, savor every moment of these holidays with your loved ones, enjoy everything you can and do me a great favor: don’t forget to be happy!
A big hug and see you in my next post.
