If there is one sneaker that never goes out of fashion worldwide, it is the white converse. In addition to being super comfortable, casual, sporty, and youthful, combined with any look, whether a dress, jeans or even skirts, it is an incredibly versatile and good quality garment. The problem arises when the inevitable passage of time takes its toll, and we neglect cleaning and washing them, especially during the rainy season.

It also happens that mistakes are made when cleaning white sneakers that cause the yellowish and unaesthetic color. It would be a shame to sacrifice that pair of shoes that have saved you more than once from trouble, those that have accompanied you even to sports and have become an irreplaceable part of your wardrobe. Better give them another chance! We show you how to clean white converse and make them look like they just came out of the box in just five steps and without spending almost any money. How to clean white converse with baking soda

With time, use, and the incorrect use of aggressive chemicals such as bleach, one of them bleach, my preserves turned yellow, lost their impeccable appearance, and it seemed that their useful life was coming to an end. The good news is that it wasn’t, and I owe it all to baking soda, ammonia, AND soap!

The truth is that I recovered the pure white color of my tennis shoes -which I thought was impossible- and I will not keep this valuable information to myself. So don’t throw away your white converse! It is possible that this pair of shoes that are never missing from the closet still has a couple of years left. It’s easy, cheap and fast!

  1. Remove the laces and inserts and soak them in a mixture of cold water, dishwashing detergent -preferably neutral pH- and two tablespoons of baking soda. This will help eliminate stains and odors. After 20 minutes, rinse them and let them air dry.
  2. Wipe with a damp towel or a cloth slightly dampened with water, the rubber part of the tennis shoe, and the rest of the shoe to remove any excess dust and accumulated dirt.
  3. Prepare a mixture with equal parts of baking soda, soap and vinegar to form a thick paste.
  4. Moisten a toothbrush or a clothes brush – the bristles must be soft – with this mixture and scrub all the fabric material; leave it on for 45 minutes – or longer if it is too dirty – and rinse with cold water.
  5. The fifth and last step is to let them dry in the open air, place them under the sun for a maximum period of 45 minutes and then let them dry completely in the shade; this will prevent prolonged exposure to the sun from causing irreversible deterioration.

Note: if you do not have vinegar and baking soda, you can replace them with ammonia diluted in water and perform the same procedure. Although its odor is somewhat annoying and intense, it is another effective ally to removing stains.

Although converse can be machine-washed ed in a cloth bag or cover, we recommend that you wash them by hand to preserve them in optimal condition for much longer and prevent them from warping or shrinking, but never dry them in the dryer!
