2023 IRS Tax Refund Calendar Dates for Receiving Refunds via Direct Deposit or Check

Dates for the IRS Refunds via Direct Deposit|IRS Refunds via Direct Deposit

In past years, the IRS would release an annual refund schedule, but for 2023, they have not yet done so. However, if you have filed your taxes electronically, you can expect to receive your refund within three weeks at the latest. Based on trends from recent years, we have made predictions for the dates when direct deposit and mailed check refunds will be issued. Please see below for more information.

There are two methods to receive your IRS tax refund: direct deposit or check. If you have filed your 2022 tax return electronically and selected either direct deposit or check, you can expect to receive your refund within two to three weeks. As you may know, once you have filed your tax refund electronically, you can expect to receive your refund via direct deposit within a maximum of 21 days. However, if you have selected the option to receive a check, it may take up to one week longer than direct deposit.

Date for Direct Deposit of IRS Refund

The IRS has not released a schedule for the direct deposit of tax refunds, nor have they announced a date for receiving 2022 tax returns. As is the case every year, millions of individuals have filed their tax returns electronically in order to receive a refund, and some have already received their refunds. If you have filed your tax return and selected direct deposit as your refund option, you can expect to receive your refund within 21 days at the latest. If it has been over 21 days since you filed and you have not received your direct deposit, you can visit the IRS website to contact the appropriate authority.

Date for Mailing IRS Refund Check

If you filed your tax refund electronically and requested a refund by check, it may take up to seven days longer than direct deposit to receive your refund. In some cases, it can take up to 10 days. If you have not received your check within four weeks, you should wait an additional two to three days. It is important to note that for individuals whose refunds are accepted within seven days of e-filing, refunds are typically received within three to four weeks. You can check the status of your return 24 hours after filing. Refunds may be delayed if the IRS has not accepted your refund even after one week has passed.

Taxpayers who filed for a refund with the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) should expect to receive their refund within 6 to 8 weeks, whether they chose direct deposit or a mailed check.
