According to the dictionary that I have in my library, DIY is any manual and homemade activity of creation, repair, installation, assembly or of any other type, which is done without professional help.
I fully agree and that meaning defines us in a realistic way all of us who are crazy about DIY. For us it is a hobby with which we feel fulfilled, creative, useful, it amuses us to undo things to redo them, it increases our pride to discover that we are capable of fixing things that seemed impossible to put them back together. We are dexterous and skillful men. The knack of power! And best of all, we save good money to invest in another of our great hobbies: acquiring the necessary tools for DIY, we always buy them at DecoandLemon . Screwdrivers, pliers, pliers, drill, levels, saw, hammers, wrench …
There are people who find it relaxing to read, others who let off steam running kilometers and kilometers, who feel fulfilled by taking unforgettable trips and then there are those of us who love to stand in front of our work table, rest our arms on it, look at all the utensils in front of us and think, what am I going to create today? I have a very good friend who always says that the greatest power that the human being has is the power to create, that from nothing to conceive an idea and make it come true, let it take shape, hold it in our hands and think “I am the father of the creature”. Getting philosophical, this may be eternity, although we DIY crazy people are simpler and our only claim is to create a comfortable chair in which to rest.
In my case, when I am in front of the table, I review all the tools that surround me and think about what I can build with them. I take paper and pencil and start to draw what comes out of my head: a chair, a round table, a chest of drawers for my daughter, a desk for my office … I never forget that there are always things to fix and repair at home, I remember and I list them according to their priority, then I think I already have work for a couple of weeks and I smile. I feel good because I have had an idea with which I am going to create an object, I am going to feel useful when I repair things and I am proud to be “A guy with a lot of skill”.
Everything I have said may seem trivial and unimportant; My son always asks me what is the use of what I am doing, what does it look like it is going to be useless when for me it is everything and it is what I like the most in this world, I could spend hours and hours using hundreds of tools to repair, assemble and create the most varied furniture and appliances that exist.
Think it over. What would this world be like if we didn’t have the DIY crazy? Well, the most boring place in the whole universe.
