How to make easy cotton mandalas

Mandalas algodón fáciles

Mandalas They are the representations that are used in Buddhism and Hinduism at a spiritual level, but apart from these cultures there are also others that have also used them in their spiritual representations, such as the mandorla (shaped like an almond) of Christian art in Romanesque art and Byzantine, in some Gothic churches they have them on the floor and in the rose windows of the windows, the drawings of the Indian villages, and so on.
It is believed that being concentric mandalas suggest perfection , and the perimeter of the circle represents the return of our being to nature. They are also found in the occult tradition, always resorting to the magic circle in rituals.
With this little explanation now we will be able to make our diy crochet or crochet mandalas, using our favorite colors, in order to express all our wonderful hidden creativity. I hope you liked it and if you do one, don’t forget that you can send us your photos to share.

Mandalas, introduction :

Crochet Mandalas always start with a magic ring , but at the end of each round the circle should not be closed with a slip stitch, we must use the modular circle that we explain below.

mandala-medio-circulo-modular

Modular half point.

  1. We make a chain that is always a multiple of 6.
  2. We make a shell with 6 treble crochets in the fourth stitch of the chain.
  3. We skip two chain stitches and make a slip stitch in the third chain.
  4. We skip two chain stitches and make another 6-stitch shell on the third chain.
  5. We repeat steps 3 and 4 until we finish the chain stitches that we made in point 1.
  6. We start the other half of the shell. We repeat all the steps until the end of the work, making the slip stitches coincide with the ones we did in the other half.
  7. We repeat all the steps as in point 5 until we finish and cut the thread.

We also have to take into account that for our crochet or crochet work to be perfect and showy like the DIY mandalas , we must block them in the following way:

Block tissues.

In all crochet or crochet work we must do it before joining them together or sewing them to any fabric, we put them on a flat surface, where we can iron them, we can help ourselves with pins and a ruler to have everything in order and with the size that we want to give.
We wet any cotton fabric that we have at home, I recommend that it always be white, we wet it and put it on top of our work.
We put the iron to heat setting the temperature for the cotton fabrics. We go through it with great care not to press the fabric and our work, it is very important that the steam that the cotton fabric gives off reaches our work.
Finally, when we see that the cotton fabric has already evaporated or dried, we iron normally (without removing the cotton fabric) and wait for our work to cool, remove the pins and we have it ready to put it where we want.

Mandalas, for light and emotional stability:

The cotton thread that I have used for this mandala-shaped glass coaster are blue tones that represent emotional stability and yellows that represent light, we indicated a table of colors in a previous post . If you want to use your favorite colors you can also do it. But on the contrary, if you prefer to knit a curtain or a beautiful mobile you can also do it, give free rein to your imagination and do what you prefer.
We make a magic ring with 2 chains and 15 double crochets. The 2 chains at the beginning would be equivalent to the first double crochet (we have to have 16 stitches).
Without taking the needle out of the loop, we pull the thread up, tighten it and close the stitch. Now we are going to finish the circle in a very different way, we thread a needle.
We look for the first high point that we have made, whether they are the ones that form chains, braids, V, etc., and then we pass the needle under this point, always from the back to the front, passing under between both strands, we detail it below.

Lock chain (step 1)

Lock chain (step 2)

We change the color, we will hide the remaining threads from the color change under the stitches of this round, so we will not need to do the auction at the end.
We make 2 chains and a double crochet in the same point where the chains come out. We make an increase with a high point in each of the previous points, when we finish it we will have achieved 32 points.
We change color again, for each high point we make an increase, when we finish it we will have achieved 48 points.
We change color again, for each high point we make an increase, when we finish it we will have achieved 64 points.
We change color again. We make a chain and 1 single crochet in the same stitch. We will make 6 more single crochets, and thus we can make an elongated single crochet (it differs from the normal one is that we will not click on the round that corresponds to us, we will do it on the one below, instead of clicking on round 4 we will click on round 3). I leave you the steps to follow below:

Elongated low point (step 1)

Elongated low point (step 2)

When we have finished doing what we have indicated above, we will have 64 points. It is very important to finish the round with 64 points, then we will notice how the mandala undulates, this is normal.
We change color again, we make a chain and a single crochet in the same stitch; We skip a point of the base, but we do the next 5 high points (we will form a kind of shell), we keep repeating this, that is, we intersperse shells with low points until we end up in a shell. We will close the round as indicated at the beginning.
Finally, we make a circle with chains on the second round of the high points, to be able to do this we must put the crochet or crochet needle between 2 high points and draw the thread towards the front of the mandala. We indicate it below:

We put the crochet hook in the space between two double crochets and make the slip stitch.

We are repeating the previous step until the penultimate space, we make the chain to close the round in the same way that we have closed the previous rounds. We have it finished and now we block it (it will always be much better if we use natural fibers, so we can work it and give it the shape, dimension and firmness we want).

Spring flower mandala:

We chain 7 and close in the round with 1 slip stitch forming a magic ring.
1st row or round : We make 10 double crochets inside the ring. The first double crochet is replaced by 3 chains. We close the row or round with 1 slip stitch minced in the 3rd chain, counting from the bottom.
2nd row or round : We make 1 popcorn stitch of 5 double treble crochets, chopped in each treble crochet and between the popcorn and popcorn stitches, we chain 3. We replace the first double double crochet with chain 4. Close the row or row with 1 slip stitch chopped in the center of the first popcorn stitch.
3rd row or round : We make 1 double crochet in each chain-space of 3 chains and between double crochet and double crochet we make 2 chains. The first double crochet is replaced by 3 chains. We close the row or round with 1 slip stitch minced in the 3rd chain, counting from the bottom.
4th row or round: We do 1 double crochet in one of the double crochets, [we make 2 chains, we do 1 double crochet in the next chain-space of 2, chain 2, we do 1 double crochet in the next chain-space of 2, we do 2 chains, we make 1 double crochet chopped in the next double crochet], we repeat all the previous stitches, that is, all the stitches that are within […], now we replace the first double crochet with 3 chains. Close the row or round with 1 slip stitch minced in the 3rd chain, counting from the bottom.
5th row or round: We do 1 double crochet in one of the double crochets, [we chain 8, we do 1 double crochet in the next double crochet, we chain 2, we do 1 double crochet in the next double crochet, we chain 2, we do 1 low point chopped in the next high point], we repeat all the previous points, that is, all the points that are within […]. We close the row or round with 1 slip stitch minced in the 1st single crochet of the row or round.
6th row or round : We make 13 double crochets in each chain space that we have made of 8 chains and 1 single crochet in each single crochet. Close the row or round with 1 slip stitch minced in the 1st treble crochet of the row or round.
7th row or round: [We do 1 double crochet in the 7th high point of the fan, we chain 5, we do 2 double crochets closed together, chopped in the 11th high point of the 1st fan and the 3rd high point of the next fan, we chain 5], we go back to repeat all the previous points, that is, all the points that are within […]. We close the row or round with 1 slip stitch minced in the 1st single crochet of the row or round.
8th row or round : We make 1 double crochet in each chain, in each single crochet and in the center of each group of 2 double crochets closed together. The first double crochet is replaced by 3 chains. We close the row or round with 1 slip stitch minced in the 3rd chain, counting from the bottom.
9 ° We make 2 rows or laps . superimposed in low points, we are doing them at the same time that we are putting them to cover the round wire.
We make a long chain as if we were forming a cord, we will do it to the length we want.
