Planting avocados in the field is an idea that has occurred to you once in your life if you have a garden available. Avocados are a delicious, nutritious fruit with a myriad of good properties for our organism, and this is even more pronounced if we grow them at home.
Although planting avocados in a garden is quite simple, it is really important to know what characteristics an avocado needs to grow. For example, the amount of sun it needs to grow properly, how many times a gift is needed or how the soil in which it is grown should be.

When should avocados be planted in the field?
The best time to plant avocados in the field is spring. This is because the first months of cultivation need balanced temperatures so that the plant grows healthily and does not suffer the consequences of either cold or heat.
If you start growing them in summer, especially in Spain, the avocado will probably dry out before it can get ahead. The same happens if you start the process in autumn because your avocado plant will suffer the consequences when the cold weather arrives.
If you have a garden where the sun shines most of the day, you can start in March even if temperatures are still lower. If it is a cooler location, it is best to start in April or May.
Step by step to grow avocado in the right way
Previously you can make the avocado germinate in a glass of water and with a toothpick stuck in it, as you can see in the image. In this way, the process will be much faster, and everything will be simpler.
Once you have taken this step, the next thing to do is more or less like this:
- Prepare well the land in which you are going to grow avocados. This is to remove dirt, remains of previous plants, stones, or any element that may affect the future growth of the avocado.
- Then, you will have to make a hole of about forty centimeters for each avocado you are going to grow. If there are several of them, leaving enough space between the holes is convenient. It is convenient to pour the most suitable substrate and a little hummus in that hole.
- It is then possible to place the avocado plant to be grown inside the hole. It should be approximately two centimetres below ground level, and there should be no gaps between it and the rest of the surrounding soil.
Once all this is set up, you must make sure you water it abundantly.
