This astounding find went viral thanks to TikTok, where user Charlie, or @chopmeatchuck by his nickname on the social media platform, shared their experience. Even being quite usual that prepared dishes can far exceed the daily recommended sodium limit, set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of 2,300 milligrams per day, this amount is particulary frightening.

This Aldi product leaved Charlie stunned when they found out that a single serving contained 2,950 milligrams of sodium, meaning that the entire bag accumulated an astronomical amount of salt.

“They dehydrated an entire ocean”, a user joked on TikTok

In a video that quickly garnered over 1.1 million views, Charlie showcased the seafood-prepared dish and expressed their amazement. “I thought my eyes were deceiving me” Charlie commented in the video.

Comments on the TikTok video were quick to arrive, and some users attempted to explain the high salt content. “They dehydrated an entire ocean” one user joked. Another one suggested that since it’s a seafood boil, the actual sodium intake might not be as high in practice.

However, several buyers shared their personal experiences, stating that the product was excessively salty even when using only a fraction of the seasoning packet.

In a conversation with the media, Charlie admitted that, while some focused on other things said in the video, the most surprising aspect was the level of sodium in the product. “I had never seen a sodium amount in the tens of thousands before, so it was a moment of surprise,” he expressed.

Despite this discovery, Charlie remains as a loyal Aldi customer, considering it his “favorite grocery store.” According to him, the store offers a variety of products with more reasonable sodium levels than other conventional stores.
