Since Monday, September 25, the Town of North Haven’s Community Services Office will begin scheduling appointments for applicants for the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP), the counterpart of the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
The 2023-2024 LIHEAP energy assistance granting season will officially begin on Tuesday, October 3rd for residents of North Haven, Connecticut. The application ways are simple and accessible for everyone who needs it, and we are going to tell you how to apply for this important financial aid.
Applying for CEAP/LIHEAP assistance in North Haven, Connecticut
To effectively apply for the energy assistance, via the upcoming CEAP/LIHEAP program, ensure you have the necessary energy and/or water documents ready. If you’re seeking Heating Assistance, you’ll require a copy of your most recent heating bill or electric bill. For Water Assistance, you’ll need your water bill or proof that your utilities are included in your rental lease.
Next, gather income documents, if applicable. If you or anyone in your household receives SNAP or cash assistance, you automatically meet income requirements and don’t need to provide additional income documents. However, if you don’t receive these benefits, you’ll need to submit proof of income based on your situation:
- If you or anyone in your household (18 or older) is employed, provide copies of paystubs covering income from any four consecutive weeks within the last three months or a signed letter from your payroll department/employer stating your income during that period.
- For self-employed individuals, such as freelancers, contractors, or small business owners, provide a completed Self-Employment Worksheet and your most recently filed IRS Form 1040, including all schedules.
- If there is additional income in your household, provide award letters and/or signed statements. These could include benefit verification letters for Social Security, unemployment or veterans’ benefits, contributions from friends/relatives, pensions or annuities, rental income, alimony, child support, or adoption benefits.
- Pension recipients should submit their most recent pension statement or their latest bank statement along with their IRS 1099 Form. A signed statement from the income source on their letterhead will also be accepted.
