Meltdown at Costco Caught Out at the Self-Checkout: A Tale of Frustration and Mockery about this Shopper’s

Outraged shopper takes on Costco's self-checkout policy and social media reacts - Take a peep at the scandal.

The controversy sparkle over the Costco self-checkout machines.

A TikTok user recently had a meltdown over Costco’s self-checkout policy and took to social media to rant about it. But, please, don’t get me started on those self-checkout machines! They’re supposed to make our lives easier, but all they do is add another layer of frustration to the already stressful experience of grocery shopping. Sometimes it’s like the machine is mocking you for not being perfect with your movements and reactions. And let’s not forget the fact that you’re doing the job of a cashier for free. Why should we do the work when the store can just hire more staff?

According to @Mr.Candol, the retail giant is now requiring its employees to check shoppers’ memberships at the self-checkout station, leaving the faithful shopper unable to help his dear mother with her groceries. Exactly as you’ve just read it: A non-member was not able to help his mother (a member) at the self-checkout kiosk.

The Viral Rant Against Costco Self-Checkout

Naturally, the video went viral, getting thousands of views from people who, actually, agree to the criticism from Mr.Candol. But, there’s a catch on all this situation: many of them ignore that this policy that’s been in place since the dawn of time (or at least since the inception of Costco). But, it gets better. Some of the commenters actually defended the company, claiming that this has always been their policy and that it’s not that big of a deal.

Self-checkout machines’ policies are causing controversy.

Of course, there were also some commenters who were equally outraged by the policy and shared their own horror stories of being denied the right to buy groceries for their dear old moms. One user even claimed to have been turned away at self-checkout because the groceries were for their mother. This is something that some other TikTokers felt related to.

So far, Costco has yet to respond to the user’s complaints, leaving us to wonder if they even care about the complications they’re causing. One can only hope that they’ll see the error of their ways and abolish this controversial policy once and for all.

Costco Resists the Express Lanes

At Costco, they purchase to offer the best shopping experience for its members, since the competition is thought and no company can afford to lose costumers. They’ve found that most of its members purchase an average of sixteen items per visit, which would mean that, on average, the express aisle would be the least used of all the registers.

That’s why the retailer made the decision not to include express lanes, at least for now because it doesn’t make any sense for both the company and the costumers. However, they have implemented the use of self-checkout stations  at select locations and may expand to more warehouses in the future. This is not a widespread situation, and you must go to the regular human-driven cash register to pay for your groceries and other stuff.
