If you missed the tax filing deadline and still need some help or have questions about an IRS notice, don’t worry! The IRS is opening many Taxpayer Assistance Centers (TACs) across the nation for a special Saturday event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 13th. Over 40 locations in more than 25 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico will be open on Saturday to provide some extra face-to-face help for those in need.

IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel said, “IRS employees worked hard this tax season to provide more help for people, and the Saturday hours helped many taxpayers outside of normal business hours.” He added that the special Saturday hours are part of a larger effort to improve and transform the IRS to better serve taxpayers and the nation.

IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centers

Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, the IRS has added hundreds of employees to Taxpayer Assistance Centers across the nation, reopening or opening more than 25 local TAC offices since last year. More employees will be added to these locations in the coming months. Usually, these IRS offices are open during the week and require appointments for services. However, during these special Saturday hours, walk-ins are welcome for all services, except for making cash payments.

Before visiting on Saturday, the IRS recommends checking out IRS.gov for safe, secure, and convenient online resources that might help resolve some issues without making a trip. This information is available in multiple languages.

Please note that due to the no-appointment-necessary policy for these special Saturday hours, some locations may see high demand and longer wait times than usual. To help with this, the IRS encourages you to plan ahead, review key tips, and come prepared with the necessary information. IRS employees will be doing their best to serve as many people as quickly as possible.

If they’re not available, don’t worry – you’ll get a referral for these services. IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service employees might also be on hand to assist with some problems.
