Hometrust Mortgage has taken a positive step towards resolving a class-action lawsuit by agreeing to a settlement and pay some money to those affected. This settlement aims to address concerns that arose from a data breach that occurred in July 2022. The individuals who stand to benefit from this settlement are those whose personal information may have been put at risk during the Hometrust Mortgage data breach of July 2022.

The lawsuit alleges that Hometrust Mortgage did not put in place adequate cybersecurity measures that could have prevented the data breach from happening in the first place. As a result of this breach, sensitive information such as names, contact details, and Social Security numbers were reportedly compromised.

Hometrust Mortgage is a mortgage lender based in Houston, with locations in Texas and New Mexico, and thousands of customers in those locations. Even though the company accepted to pay money to the affected individuals, they hadn’t admitted any wrongdoing. If you demonstrate you were negatively impacted, as a class member you could get several benefits, including reimbursement, cash payments and credit monitoring.

Members of the class-action lawsuit are eligible to receive compensation for economic losses resulting from data breaches that have not already been compensated by a third party. The settlement website does not specify a maximum limit for expense reimbursements. Likewise, class members can request reimbursement for up to 10 hours of time lost, at a rate of $40 per hour, with a maximum reimbursement of $400 for lost time.

You’re eligible if your personal information was potentially exposed or compromised in the data breach, and that could end up in potential risks for you and your personal information.
