For sure, at least once in your life you’ve dressed like something bloody for Halloween: bloody girlfriend, bloody nurse, bloody serial killer, Freddie or Jason… or the classic blood dripping fangs’ vampire.
In any case, there’s always the search for the fake blood that doesn’t look that fake. And the food brands have not lost the opportunity to take advantage of the commercial potential of this. At the end, it’s all about the ketchup: I’m sure you’ve used ketchup many times when going out in a quest to get as many candies as possibles (don’t remember to brush your teeth afterwards, kids!).
Bloody ketchup, Heinz!
That’s why Heinz, the most famous ketchup brand in the United States and one of the bestsellers in the world, launched its 2022 edition of Tomato Blood Ketchup, which returns only for the creepiest holiday of the year.
Heinz hired Toby, the first vegetarian vampire in history, who stopped consuming animal products (clearly human blood is not compatible with vegan diets, and Toby knows it) and now only feeds himself on Tomato Blood Ketchup. Good Toby had ethical issues on that for hundreds of years, and Heinz came to relieve his suffering.
The first “veganpire” ever?
“I hope that, by airing a public service announcement, vampires all over the country will consider that humans can be more than just food and give friendship a chance while enjoying a tasty alternative,” says Toby, 280 years old, looking at the camera.
“I have to eat, like, hundreds of bottles of tomato blood a week” adds the lovely character whom we’ve baptized veganpire.
“There are few nights more magical than Halloween and, for years, Heinz has helped people create memories, helping them transform into the spookiest versions of themselves,” said Ashleigh Gibson, Heinz brand director.
“We think if you have Heinz, you have a costume”, she added.
Is it really vegan?
Beyond the campaign, vegans can rest assured that, by consuming Heinz ketchup, they are not exposing themselves to breaking their diets absent of animal products.
According to the Kraft Heinz company, the classic and beloved ketchup is made 100% with vegetable ingredients (tomato concentrate, vinegar, corn syrup, salt and spices), and other products of the company are also vegan, except the honey sweetened Ketchup, since this ingredient is not suitable for vegans.
As a bonus track, check out the Heinz “Scarily Good Black Garlic Mayo”, which comes in three different labeled bottle, only available for Halloween.
And so, with just one bottle of ketchup and one of black mayo, you can turn any clothes into a frightening Halloween costume. Everybody is gonna be so scared but you’ve just had spent a couple bucks!
Such a treat, ain’t it? You’re welcome, but its not free: I’ll claim 10% of all the candy you collect.
