If there is something that represents Ikea and sums up its spirit, it is the KALLAX bookcase, one of the immortal pieces of furniture of the Swedish brand that, not a single year, has ceased to be a total success in sales. The secret, design experts say, is its simplicity and minimalism, which make this historical design piece the basis of any home decor. It has even become one of the most solid bases for DIY projects.

That’s why the Ikea KALLAX furniture is always one of the starting points for fans of Ikea hacks, who create pretty, unique versions with little effort and little money. One of the ones we have found is the one created by the designer Emma-Jo Woollin, and that is causing a furor on TikTok and Instagram, not only among Ikea fans in the United States, but from all over the world.

Emma-Jo noticed that the entryway of her house was asking for an elegant and handsome sideboard, and she realized that the Ikea KALLAX fit perfectly into that space. It was as if he had paid a private cabinetmaker to make a piece of furniture to measure, and she could not believe it.

The expert home renovator used the 30 3/8×57 7/8 version, which is priced in the United States at $89.99, a great price for a piece that will make a furniture that look like a thousand dollars one. “We used half round pine moulding and cut them to size (8.6 inches) using a chop saw to cover each door, using sandpaper to file the edges for a smooth finish,” she explains. “We then attached them to the doors with no nails glue, using a heavy object to weight them down whilst they dried.”

Simple Elements to Make This Cheap IKEA Shelf Like a Thousand Dollars Sideboard

To raise it from the floor, she added four low-priced golden triangle furniture feet she found on Amazon for little money, and they automatically gave the sideboard a new height. Then she opted for a mate black paint (not glossy, remember that glossy paint is complicated to make it look elegant).

To make the front doors, Woollin opted for mat-style covers that added to the refined style she was looking for. Finally, she added champagne-gold cabinet handles (again, from Amazon) for a few bucks, and viola! There’s the totally new entryway sideboard, that was complemented with a golden-framed mirror for a perfect match.

The designer and TikTok influencer accompanied her new sideboard with hanging bronze lights with warm LED bulbs, such a delightful space to see when you enter a home.
