Ikea, the Swedish furniture giant, has unveiled a new collection titled “ÖMSESIDIG” that celebrates the rich and diverse cultural traditions of Latin America. The limited edition collection is a collaboration between Ikea and nine Latin American creatives hailing from Mexico, Colombia, and Chile.
“ÖMSESIDIG” meaning “mutual” in Swedish, represents the shared curiosity between Ikea and the artists to create and learn from each other. The collection features 30 products ranging from glassware, tableware, decorations, and textiles, each showcasing the unique and vibrant cultural traditions of Latin America.

The collaboration with Ikea was led by Mexican textile designer Marisol Centeno and product designer Liliana Ovalle, who worked with other talented artists such as Colombian neomuralist Diana Ordóñez, product designer Agustín Nicolás Rivero, and chef Álvaro Clavijo. Chilean artists Abel Cárcamo Segovia, Trini Guzmán, Catalina Zarhi, and architect Felipe Assadi, each contributed their own creative perspective and approach to the designs.
The collection captures the diversity of Latin America’s cultural traditions, highlighting both the unique contrasts and commonalities that unite the region. The result is a stunning collection that celebrates the different talents of the collaborators, showcasing their creativity and artistry.
This collection marks Ikea’s continued expansion into Latin America, with the company opening its first physical store in Mexico in April 2021 and recently expanding into Chile with the help of retail giant Falabella. The release of “ÖMSESIDIG” is a testament to Ikea’s commitment to celebrating diversity and inclusivity through design.

Tjeerd van Waijenburg, product design leader at Ikea, remarked how this collection pays homage to the Latin American many cultures. “This collection is full of life, colors, and amazing prints. It demonstrates that we can create outstanding things,” he said.
The Ikea “ÖMSESIDIG” includes a wide range of items, from exquisite glassware and tableware to decorative elements and textiles. One of the most anticipated pieces in the collection is the kitchenware inspired by “la cueca,” Chile’s national dance. Additionally, the collection features a tablecloth inspired by the majestic Andes mountains, fabrics that draw from the vibrant carnival of Colombia, and a pitcher and glasses that showcase the vibrant colors of Mexico.
This Ikea collection also offers essential home items such as candleholders, stools, cushion covers, and cooler bags. And for music lovers, there are two unique versions of the FRAKTA bag and three different covers for the SYMFONISK Wi-Fi speaker frame, both iconic IKEA items.
