In the state of Louisiana, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, also known as SNAP benefits, are distributed over the course of a month. The specific day on which beneficiaries receive their benefits varies depending on the last digit of their Social Security Number (SSN).
In total, the SNAP benefits payments -also known as food stamps– are made over 23 days, between the 1st and the 23rd of each month, in order to gather the beneficiaries into small groups and thus guarantee an orderly and efficient payment system. If you are looking for your payment date, we will tell you which groups have already received their deposits on the Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards and which ones are due to be paid in the coming days.

New Incremented Food Stamps From October 2023: You’ll Get More Money From Now On
In order to address the impact of inflation on SNAP recipients’ benefits, the USDA makes annual adjustments to SNAP monthly allotments by tracking the trends in the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Price Index (CPI). This is done to counteract the potential decline in the purchasing power of SNAP beneficiaries, ensuring their ability to afford essential and nutritious foods crucial for their health and overall well-being.
For Fiscal Year 2024, there will be an increase in the maximum monthly food allotments based on the size of the household. For instance, the maximum benefit for a single-member household will be raised from $281 to $291 per month.
The new payment chart, compared to the previous two years, is as follows:
Household Size | Oct. 1, 2021 | Oct. 1, 2022 | Oct. 1, 2023 |
1 | $250 | $281 | $291 |
2 | $459 | $516 | $535 |
3 | $658 | $740 | $766 |
4 | $835 | $939 | $973 |
5 | $992 | $1,116 | $1,155 |
6 | $1,190 | $1,339 | $1,386 |
7 | $1,316 | $1,480 | $1,532 |
8 | $1,504 | $1,691 | $1,751 |
Each additional person | + $188 | +$211 | +$219 |
The minimum allotment from October 1, 2023, remains in the same $23. These changes are expected to impact those with little to no income who are currently receiving the maximum benefit amount.
Income Thresholds and Deductions Adjusted From October 2023
Modifications in the income criteria and deductions will result in an augmented monthly allowance for certain SNAP households, that started from October 1, 2023. The income eligibility criteria, which are linked to both inflation and the federal poverty level, are being revised. This entails an elevation in the gross and net monthly income thresholds for households.
For instance, a single-person household will now have a maximum gross monthly income threshold of $1,580, representing an increase of $107. The net monthly income limit for such a household will be $1,215, reflecting an increase of $82. Meanwhile, a single-person household that falls under the Broad-Based Categorically Eligible (BBCE) category will have a gross monthly income limit of $2,430, an increase of $165.
In contrast, a household with three members will face a gross monthly income limit of $2,694, a rise of $199, with a net monthly income limit of $2,072, an increase of $152. If the household qualifies for non-cash benefits such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or State maintenance of effort (MOE) funded assistance, it is considered a BBCE household, and its gross monthly income threshold will be $4,144, a $305 increase.
