In a bold new move, Walmart has just introduced its new shopping carts that are expected to be available soon in all stores in the United States, and perhaps in other countries. Well, that is, if the customers end up accepting them, because few people have been happy with the new design, and there are those who claim that they make them feel “too short” or “like a dwarf”.

Readers had a lot to say about the new Walmart shopping carts that recently made their debut in Mayfield, Kentucky. The buzz surrounding these carts began when Walmart shared a video on Facebook in late July, showcasing the cart’s fresh features, including a cellphone holder and a cupholders, plus a slightly increased height. But it seems not everyone was thrilled with these modern marvels, and they weren’t shy about expressing their opinions on social media.

Why Are Walmart Customers Hating the New Shopping Cart

The primary bone of contention centered around the cart’s height. Customers took to the comments section to air their grievances, with many lamenting that the taller design had caused them discomfort and even pain. Annika Schenk of El Dorado, Arkansas, who had her run-in with the new carts, shared her thoughts on Facebook: “The new Walmart shopping carts make me feel like a dwarf. But then again, I have no clue how a short person will push them?”

Walmart shared their new shopping cart design, and customers are confused.

A customer called Kim Stewart said: “These really are awful for anyone with any problems, especially someone shorter. I am now sitting at home in pain between my shoulder blades and my arm.” She even added that “someone definitely did not think things through with the design. It’s the most ridiculous thing to come out.”

But the guys at Walmart who designed this failed cart would be happy if it was just the height issue. There are more complaints about this controversial design. Jared Strickland from Concord, North Carolina, shared his feelings, saying: “the so-called phone holder seems useless in my opinion. It’s just a small wire shelf to hold the phone upright. It doesn’t seem secure enough to me at all.” Once again, not a lot of people seems to like it.

Not Anyone’s Hating the New Walmart Cart

It’s not all bad news for this bold but hotly debated new Walmart cart. Some people are happy with the change, and claim that they meet the needs of certain types of customers who did not feel comfortable with the old carts. “They’re thinking about their customers and their needs while shopping, so I think [the phone holder is] a great gesture,” wrote Kristian Lynch of Henry County, Georgia, quoted by USA Today. “They should keep both designs to be used by different people, and hopefully that will lessen the complaints.”

“In the few weeks we’ve had these carts, I don’t see people hunched over and resting all of their weight on the carts. It seems the carts are forcing people to stand up straight and walk with a more natural gait,” a shopper called Michael Keichinger shared.

It remains to be seen whether Walmart will go ahead with the plan to change its carts for this new design that has garnered a field of criticism.
