The upcoming ÖMSESIDIG Ikea collection is a celebration of Latin American culture, featuring designs by nine amazing designers from the Latino region, which has a lot to offer to the world. The collection explores the joy of festivities and socializing at home, and the first products have just been revealed. The global launch is set for April 2023.

The name ÖMSESIDIG means “mutual” in Swedish, and it’s a nod to the collaboration between Ikea and the creatives involved. The collection honors various cultures, crafts, and expressions in Latin America. The first products in the collection set the mood for celebration, with designs that capture the bold identity of the collection and highlight traditions of socializing around food and music in Latin America.

IKEA Brings Latino Colorful Heritage to Their Products

One of the highlights of the collection is the three ÖMSESIDIG panels for the SYMFONISK picture frame Wi-Fi speaker. These panels are designed by Chilean muralist and artist Trini Guzmán and Colombian artist Diana Ordóñez. The panels feature bold, colorful patterns that can be hung on the wall as eye-catching art pieces. Diana Ordóñez drew inspiration from the vibrant carnival tradition of Colombia to create her panel, which features a mask. Ikea is turning its eyes to Latin America, where the company is growing really fast, with stores opening at a fast pace.

The ÖMSESIDIG rice paper lampshades are another cool product in the collection, designed by Mexican designer Liliana Ovalle. The lampshades bring life and light to any gathering, and they showcase Ovalle’s personal take on how to create an inviting atmosphere. The ÖMSESIDIG garland by Trini Guzmán is also a must-have for any celebration, with blank pages that can be colored in to add a personal touch.

The Tribute to Color and Diversity From IKEA

Trini Guzmán, the designer behind the garland, wanted to create products that encourage people to bring their own creativity to the objects that will be part of their homes, celebrations, and stories. “When we invite someone into our home, we are also opening a part of our hearts. By sharing our space and the items that surround us every day, we are also sharing more of our stories and intimacy,” Guzmán explains.

The ÖMSESIDIG collection is a beautiful tribute to Latin American culture, and we can’t wait to see what else Ikea has in store. Stay tuned for the global launch in April 2023.
