In New Mexico, as well as in other states across the United States, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits (SNAP) determines its payment dates based on a complex system that considers various factors, including the recipient’s household size, income, and expenses.
In New Mexico, SNAP benefits are issued monthly, with the New Mexico Human Services Department (HSD) conducting a monthly eligibility review for each recipient. The amount of food stamps a household can receive depends on its size and income, with larger households with lower income levels eligible for more substantial benefits. Income limits, based on federal poverty guidelines and adapted to household circumstances, determine eligibility. Certain expenses, like housing and medical costs, can be deducted from a household’s income to increase SNAP benefits.
