The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, overseen by the Social Security Administration, offers financial assistance to distinct groups. These include individuals who are blind, seniors aged 65 and above, and adults and children with disabilities. Eligible recipients can receive a monthly sum, which can reach up to $914.

Typically, Social Security issues one SSI payment per month, but there are notable exceptions. Annually, recipients can expect to receive 12 payments under the SSI program. However, the schedule for these payments isn’t always consistent. Some months might bring two payments, while others could see none.

Social Security SSI Payment Dates and Changes Leading Up to 2024

Looking ahead to the SSI payment dates before 2024, November 1, 2023, stands out as a significant payday for those receiving Supplemental Security Income. This marks the disbursement for November, but it’s noteworthy that October saw no SSI payment. This is because the October payment was likely issued earlier, on September 29, 2023. The reason behind this is Social Security’s policy of avoiding payments on holidays, weekends, and Saturdays, which aligns with the typical non-working days for banks.

According to the SSA payment schedule, December is a notable month, with two SSI payments expected. The second of these, arriving on December 29, includes the COLA (Cost-of-Living Adjustment) increase. While the December 1 payment incorporates the COLA increment for 2023, the December 29 disbursement will feature an additional financial boost. Indeed, Social Security has raised the maximum amounts to $943 in 2024.

For 2023, a 3.2% increase is exclusive to SSI recipients. Other Social Security beneficiaries will have to wait until specific dates in January 2024, namely January 3, 10, 17, and 24. SSI recipients who are entitled to the maximum benefit could see an increase of $29 per month, which might seem modest but accumulates to an additional $348 in 2024.

The updated amounts for married couples have also seen a rise, from $1,371 in 2023 to a potential maximum of $1,415 in 2024. Additionally, the amount for essential persons on SSI is set to increase from $458 to $472.

For those who may exceed the earnings limit to qualify for SSI, it’s worth considering sharing this information with someone who might be eligible. Informing them could not only assist them in applying but also make them aware of other associated benefits, such as reduced internet services and various discounts.
