Cleaning mirrors may sound like a simple task, but it’s easy to do it wrong. You’d be surprised how often people make mistakes when it comes to properly cleaning glass. Sometimes such simple steps as dry cleaning beforehand to remove the dust, can mean the difference between an absolutely transparent glass, and one full of scratches and stains. But, a viral TikTok video brings us the ultimate trick for a squicky-clean mirror.

Before we start, let’s say that you must not use harsh chemicals and abrasive materials that can damage the surface, leaving it cloudy or scratched. TikTok viral: The mirrors’ cleaning trick that will leave you in awe

TikTok user Janina Rivera (@janinarivera) shared the mistake people make the most when cleaning mirrors. In her video, she explains, she feels confused “when someone says they clean their mirrors with the light on.” And that’s where the actual error is.

Firstly, when you clean the mirrors with the lights on, annoying reflections on the surface of the mirror could be seen, making it difficult to visualize imperfections. By turning off the lights, you will eliminate those reflections, and you will be able to clearly see if any residue or dirt remains.

Also, turning off the lights allows you to better detect fingerprints and water stains that often accumulate on mirrors. Without the distraction of artificial lighting, your eyes will be able to focus better on the marks, and you will be able to eliminate them completely. Of course, you must do the cleaning during the day, not at night.

Other mistakes to avoid when cleaning mirrors

Never, but never ever, use a dirty or greasy cloth. If necessary, use cotton fabric that leaves no residue, a problem with some types of synthetic fabrics. A mixture of white vinegar, the same one you use to season salads, in equal parts with water, will do the job of those fancy products that they sell in the supermarket. Place this mixture in a spray bottle and gently spray it on the surface of the mirror.

Then, in a pattern of straight lines (not circular, that’s another mistake), remove the excess from top to bottom.  Do not leave any drops because, if it dries on the glass, it will become a stain and your work will have been useless.

To remove those tiny drops, the last trick is to use newspaper because it absorbs all the moisture, cleans the glasses well and leaves the surface perfectly clean. If you want, you could also try to clean it with a squeegee, but those things not always work as intended.
