Trader Joe’s, or as fans know it, TJ’s, is one of the most beloved grocery stores in the United States. It first started in Pasadena, California in 1967, and has since expanded throughout the country. While for now there are no plans to expand beyond the borders of the Union, there are new stores on the way.
One of those that had been announced, and whose construction came to reality, is in the city of Providence, Rhode Island, specifically at 425 South Main St., where Google Street View still shows photos of a construction site. The 572nd Trader Joe’s store will be a 9,048 square feet building (840.59 m²), being one of the largest supermarkets in the city.

Trader Joe’s arrives at Providence
“Customers can delight in images from Federal Hill, Brown University, Johnson and Wales University, as well as highlights from India Point to Rogers Williams Park,” a release said. The store will follow a waste reduction policy that has been applied in dozens of other locations throughout the country: they will donate unsold products to local non-profit organizations and community organizations.
More than 80 workers will staff the store, but the company is still hiring. For information, visit traderjoes.com/careers. It is Trader Joe’s second store in Rhode Island. The other location is on Bald Hill Road in Warwick.
The big opening ceremony was the last November 3, and there was an emotive ceremony with all the new associates. It will be a tough competitor for Rory’s Market and Kitchen, which opened in the Rhode Island capital last September 23. This grocery company specializes in local and organic products.
As part of Trader Joe’s plans for expansion, also opened doors in College Park, Maryland, with a gorgeous store beautifully decorated and full of those exclusive products you love to purchase. The chain will continue to announce new locations for 2023.
