Save Money Like a Pro at Walmart With Just Your Phone
In one of her recent videos, Broke Mom shared a simple but effective tip for saving money on spring and summer essentials: scan items that look similar but may be priced differently. Using the Walmart app on her phone, she demonstrated how she was able to snag a bottle of bubble solution for her kids for only $1.24, while a similar-looking bottle was priced at $0.50. But that’s not all – the Broke Mom has found all sorts of great deals at Walmart, including discounted camping gear that she found by using her scanning trick. For example, she was able to buy a Lodge Seasoned cast iron skillet, an outdoor products crossbody bag, a stainless steel coffee percolator, and a single firelog for under $10 total! And the best part is that many of these items weren’t even marked down. She just found them by scanning the articles. How is that possible?! Well, we still haven’t found the answer, but hurry up before the CEO finds out.
Broke Mom doesn’t just stick to Walmart, either. She’s found great deals at Dollar Tree, 5 Below, and even Amazon. Catch Deals With Walmart’s App and Scan to Save
Walmart has built its reputation as a retailer with the lowest prices, there is a way to catch Walmart when they’re not offering the lowest price (that actually happens): by using the Walmart app.
The Walmart app comes equipped with the Savings Catcher, which functions as a price matching tool. Simply scan your receipt after shopping at Walmart, and the app will search for the same items at other retailers in your area. If it finds a lower price at a competitor store, Walmart will refund the difference to you in the form of an eGift Card, which can be used at any Walmart or Sam’s Club location.
It’s actually easy. First, download the Walmart app on your iPhone or Android device and create an account if you don’t already have one. Once you’ve signed in, select the “Savings Catcher” option from the Shop tab. From there, tap “Add a Walmart Receipt” and scan the QR code on your receipt. If there’s no QR code, scan the barcode instead. If the barcode can’t be scanned, you can manually enter the information by selecting “Type Receipt Info.” It’s worth noting that you need to scan your receipt(s) within seven days of shopping at Walmart, and you can only submit seven receipts per week.
Once you’ve scanned your receipt, Walmart will email you to confirm that they’ve received the document, and it’s been validated. If they find a lower price, you’ll receive another email letting you know how much you’ll be refunded in “Reward Dollars.” These Reward Dollars are automatically added to your Savings Catcher account. Once you’ve accumulated enough, you can transfer the funds to an eGift Card that can be used at any Walmart or Sam’s Club location (although you can only scan Walmart receipts). To generate an eGift Card, select “Get It Back” on the app’s home screen and then “Transfer to eGift Card” on the following page. You’ll receive an email confirmation once the card is ready, usually within 24 hours.
When you’re ready to use the eGift Card, simply present the email at checkout in-store or select “Gift Card” when checking out online. Any remaining funds will remain on the eGift Card, so you don’t have to use it all in one go. It’s important to keep in mind that you don’t have to transfer your accumulated savings to an eGift Card right away. You can let the funds accumulate and transfer them when you’re ready.
