What’s going on with Family Dollar? Reasons for recall of hundreds of products

All the keys to understanding product recalls and their importance

Family Dollar Reasons for recall of hundreds of products

It is not uncommon for a shopping mall to experience some problems related to the storage of its products. However, the recall of hundreds of products at Family Dollar is remarkable for the amount and speed at which it is being done.

Why is Family Dollar recalling products?

In recent days, it has been announced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that a large number of items (hundreds of them) are being recalled.

These products are being removed primarily because of the incorrect storage and shipping process. The exact number of products and stores to which this shipment was made is not yet known.

According to the recall notice, the number of products may exceed four hundred. The basic reason for this order is that the storage was carried out outside the temperature requirements that appeared on the labels as appropriate.

The delivery took place between May and June last year. Importantly, it did not affect all stores. In fact, at the time of this writing, they stated that it did not affect states such as Delaware, Hawaii, or Alaska.

What products have been affected?

No single product profile has been affected by this recall due to incorrect storage temperature.

Within the long list of removed products, we find deodorants, anti-sweating products, toothpaste, sunscreen, moisturizers, etc.

Also, according to the list provided by the company, some medicines have been affected by this mistake of storage temperature control—for example, DayQuil, Tylenol, Alka Seltzer, Bayer, etc.

That is the complete list

The company notified its commercial centers to suspend the sale of products affected by this malpractice. To do so, they will have to carry out an inventory and stock verification. Therefore, not all stores will be affected, as we have seen, not even all States.

On the other hand, at the time of writing this article, there have been no known medical claims or reports of possible harm to persons related to the recalled products.

As is usually the norm in such cases, the firm recommends that all purchasers who may have one of the recalled products return it to the store where they purchased it.

Not the First Time

We should remember that this is not the first time that the Family Dollar firm has been forced to carry out a massive product withdrawal. At the beginning of the current year, 2022, another massive product recall was carried out.

In that case, the removal affected more than 400 stores, and the reason was the presence and activity of rats in one of the large distribution centers.

Family Dollar is owned by Dollar Tree, a parent company headquartered in Virginia. It operates over 16,000 discount retail stores under the Dollar Tree and Family Dollar brands. We are talking about a company with a significant retail presence, so the recall announcement is relevant.
