Normally, SSI checks arrive on the first of each month. But when that date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the Social Security Administration<\/strong> sends the payment one business day earlier. That means there will be no separate deposit in November the October 31 payment technically covers it.<\/p>\n

Why this creates problems for SSI recipients<\/h2>\n

While the SSA insists no one is \u201closing\u201d a payment<\/strong>, the schedule change can cause serious budgeting trouble. Many beneficiaries live paycheck to paycheck, using their SSI to cover rent, groceries, and medication. Getting paid early means they\u2019ll have to stretch that money almost five full weeks before the next deposit in December.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, even with the government shutdown ongoing, the SSA confirmed that SSI payments<\/strong> are protected because they\u2019re considered \u201cmandatory spending.\u201d That means the checks will still go out \u2014 though some administrative services, like processing new claims, may be delayed.<\/p>\n
