Snowy outside? I do not feel like leaving the house, unless it is strictly necessary. And, to stay at home, with a family-sized blanket to watch some series and listen, of course, All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey (I’m a prepper, guys) nothing better than a comfy and spicy hot soup, like the one Grandma used to prepare back in Wisconsin.
So, what flavors are we going to try this soup season, which runs (in my case) until March? This is what we found in our search at several Costco stores in Greater Los Angeles, and I’m sure you’ll find them at your local Costco, or their equivalents.
S&W Organic – Organic Black Beans
Have you ever tried chilli? Probably yes, but, if not, it’s time for you to look for a good recipe on the internet and prepare a good beans chilli with a little spicy and some protein (it can be meat, or some vegan substitute, like these) and roll up in your blanket like a winter burrito.
The S&W Organic – Organic Black Beans come ready to eat, not only into chilli, but all the recipes with beans you want, because they do not have any seasoning or salt, so they are the perfect base. You will pay only $7.79 for 8 (15-ounce) cans. A total bargain!
Kirkland Signature Organic Tomato Sauce
Not into beans? Don’t worry: you can make a delicious and comforting tomato soup with the Kirkland Signature Organic Sauce that, only at Costco, you will find for $8.79 a box of 12 cans.
The tomatoes used in this product are top quality and, when that is so, it is not necessary to lie to yourself with a lot of seasonings to make the soup delicious. If you want, you can add it to some broth or just throw it in a pot with a little onion, garlic, parsley, and bell pepper: it will taste like you have been cooking it all day, and it will only have taken 30 minutes!
It’s worth $8.79 for 12 (15-ounce) cans.
Culinary Treasures Organic Low-Sodium Vegetable Broth
We bring options for every taste and diet, so vegetarians are not left out of this list. There is no vegetable broth that compares to Culinary Treasures’, especially since it has no sugar or artificial flavors or colors. Everything in it comes from vegetables.
It is flavorsome without being too salty or spicy, and all the ingredients are recognizable in its taste without being any invasive.
The exclusive Costco price is $10.89 for 8 (32-ounce) cartons.
Better Than Bouillon Organic Reduced Sodium Vegetable Base
I haven’t eaten this one myself, but it was a recommendation from my friend Patricia. It is the Better Than Bouillon Organic Reduced Sodium Vegetable Base, and is made with carrots, parsley, onions and tomatoes, among other vegetables. According to Patty, it is one of her discoveries of the year, and now it is always omnipresent in her kitchen.
I haven’t seen it at my local Costco in Los Angeles (my friend found it in Seattle), but maybe you’ll get lucky and can try it. Tell me later what you thought of it.
