There is a significant fact that affects people’s quality of life: the amount of the world’s population living in cities with clean air is very limited. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 90% of the world’s population breathes polluted air, which causes the premature death of 7 million people every year. And there is a company that has wanted to do something: Ikea. Recently, the Swedish company launched a device that helps you monitor the quality of the air you are breathing inside the house, and it works wonderful.

Ikea is stepping up its commitment to promoting clean air by increasing consciousness of indoor air quality, by offering solutions that improve that. In an effort to merge smart technology with design to enable better indoor air knowingness, the company has launched a new smart sensor for indoor use called VINDSTYRKA.

IKEA Helps You Breathe Better at Home

This top-notch sensor is a handy device that enables people to measure and monitor the air quality in their homes, giving them insight into the levels of indoor pollutants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), carbon dioxide, and humidity. The device is designed to work seamlessly with IKEA’s smart home ecosystem, allowing users to connect to other smart devices and access data about the air quality in their homes.

“With VINDSTYRKA, our ambition has been to create an affordable high-performing air quality sensor to help our customers become more aware of the quality of the air they breathe in their homes”, said Henrik Telander, Product owner at Ikea of Sweden.

This device can detect particles smaller than 2,5 micrometers, that measure 0.1-2.5 micrometres (one thousandth of a millimetre). These particular particles are inhalable and, depending on their composition, can harm your health. This is a concern you must be most aware of if you live in a poluted city. The Ikea VINDSTYRKA can also indicate the humidity and temperature in the room it is installed at. The readings are displayed on a screen, with red, yellow, and green lights showing air quality and letting you know if you are breathing a bad or good air. You can connect this to your smartphone to monitor the air quality behavior and track it along the days and weeks.

Other IKEA Air Quality Gadgets to Take a Look At

This is not the first product launched by Ikea for this purpose, since you can purchase the Ikea VINDRIKTNING air quality sensor. It does not have a screen as the VINDSTYRKA, but only displays a red (bad), yellow (ok), or green (good) light according to the air quality in the room.

It’s recommended to combine with the Ikea FÖRNUFTIG air purifier, another great device from Ikea that we’ve talked about before. It can filter from the air particles like pollutants or pollen. This product is amazing if you have pets, since it can grab from the space fur and debris.

Officially, VINDSTYRKA will be available in all Ikea markets starting April 2023, according to a statement by the company. But, German costumers have reported finding the product in their local stores for €39.99, wich translates as $43, more or less.
